 What is the Multiple Listing Service (MLS)?

The Multiple Listing Service (MLS) is the primary data system that most Real Estate Agents use to market and sell property. According to the National Association of REALTOR®s, approximately 85% of all U.S. properties are sold through Brokers using the MLS and properties listed on the MLS average net proceeds of 7% higher than properties sold for sale by owner. The MLS will give you maximum exposure and this is the key to a successful transaction. There is no other effective way to sell your property and be successful.

When is a Real Estate Professional a REALTOR®?
When they are a member of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®. The Voice for Real Estate® -- the world's largest professional association.

The term REALTOR® is a registered collective membership mark that identifies a real estate professional who is a member of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® and subscribes to its strict Code of Ethics.

Founded in 1908, NAR has grown from its original nucleus of 120 to today's 1,000,000+ members. NAR is composed of REALTORS® who are involved in residential and commercial real estate as brokers, salespeople, property managers, appraisers, counselors and others engaged in all aspects of the real estate industry. Members belong to one or more of some 1,700 local associations/boards and 54 state and territory associations of REALTORS®. They can join one of our many institutes, societies and councils.  Is Tthere really a difference between a REALTOR® and a Real Estate Agent?

There are definitely differences. REALTORS® pay dues to belong to the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), which offers training, a published Code of Ethics and Standard of Practice that is updated as needed, a lobbying and legal committee to help establish laws to protect home ownership rights across the country and more.
